Elders Police Hotline

To create a safer environment for elders, the Elders Helpline has launched a Elders Police Hotline facility for senior citizens on the occasion of "World Elders Day" on 1st October 2005. This enables the elderly seek help from the police and neighbors in an emergency. For this scheme, senior citizens need to have a BSNL telephone connection and register. When needing help, they have only to lift and hold the telephone receiver off the hook for 20 seconds. The caller is identified through an ID number and using information from their data base, the police will first contact the caller's neighbour and then rush their mobile help units, Hoysala or Cheetah, to the spot. It is a free service.
