Smara – World Alzheimer’s Day Quiz For Medical Students

SMARA – World Alzheimer’s Day Quiz for Medical Students was organized by Nightingales Medical Trust(NMT) together withAlzheimer's & Related disorders Society of India - Bangalore Chapter, on Sept 20, 2017 at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore. This was the first ever quiz on Dementia conducted in the country for medical students.

The quiz finals was closely fought and won by Chiranth S & Megha Sridhar of Adicunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences. Fatima Nishat & Kavitha Singarvel of Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences pushed past Jilshy Varghese & Hemanth D R of St John's Medical College to claim second place after a tie breaker.


Priyadarshini R. and Madhuri S. of ESIC Bangalore, Sanjana Rai K. and Kalyani Parvathi of KMC Mangalore, Meghana T. S. and Vyjayanthi Kadambi of Mysore Medical College, and SurajKabra and Shrinidhi Deshpande of Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences were the other finalists.

Every year, 21st September is observed as World Alzheimer’s Day. On this day Alzheimer associations all over the world organize programmes to raise awareness about Dementia. World Alzheimer's Day unites people with dementia, their care givers, family, medical professionals, researchers, opinion leaders, the public and the media from all over the world. Every year programmes focusing on a different message is conducted to educate people on misconceptions about dementia.

The Preliminary Round was conducted on 31st August. Over 950 students from 30 Medical Colleges across Karnataka took part in the Preliminary Round.

Additionally Nightingales Medical Trust is working together with the Medical Colleges which took part in the quiz to set up regular Memory Clinics. Nightingales Medical Trust will provide complete technical support to set up these Memory Clinics using the existing infrastructure and personnel at the medical colleges.

Eight Medical Colleges have committed to start regular Memory Clinics in their campus. Nightingales Medical Trust is providing the technical support to start these clinics.
